It seems unlikely that Obama could have so easily forgotten about the infamous “shoe attack” on President George W. Bush in December of 2008 when an Iraqi television journalist hurled two shoes at President Bush. The President was holding a joint news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to mark the signing of a U.S.-Iraq security agreement. The journalist responsible for the political statement, Muthathar al Zaidi, tossed his shoes at Bush and yelled, This is a goodbye kiss, you dog.

Furthermore, President George W. Bush’s national security adviser and subsequent secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice was referred to by the particularly insulting first name Kundara – meaning shoe – in many Arab circles.13
